Four (Count-em!) Windows 2000 Certification Vendors to Choose FromMicrosoft isn't the only company offering to certify Windows 2000 expertise - Brainbench, Global Knowledge, and Learning Tree have stepped up to the plate as well.Page 1 of 2 1 2 When you think of Windows 2000 certification the first vendor that comes to mind is of course Microsoft. But even though the software hasn’t been out that long, Big M isn’t the only company offering to certify expertise on its newest operating system –- Brainbench, Global Knowledge Network, and Learning Tree International have developed designations as well. Before you can decide which would be best for you, you’ll need to know a bit about each program.
Direct From MicrosoftThe flagship of Microsoft’s certification program is the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, or MCSE. This designation was completely revamped and redesigned to correspond to Windows 2000, a move that has bred substantial controversy. But that’s another article. The MCSE is the most in-depth Windows 2000 certification. To earn it candidates must pass seven exams: five core exams and two electives. The exam titles range from “Installing, Configuring, and Administrating Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional” to “Implementing and Administering a Microsoft Windows 2000 Directory Services Infrastructure,” and any one of them is a substantial undertaking. Passing all seven will require a considerable investment of time and money, but doing so will also put you in what promises to be an elite class of credentialed IT professionals. If you don’t have the time, patience, or funds to do the entire MCSE, you can still take on one or more of Microsoft’s Windows 2000 focused exams and, upon passing it, become a Microsoft Certified Professional. Doing so will give you a Windows2000 credential direct from Microsoft in a shorter time, plus put you on the road for an MCSE in the future should you decide to follow that path.
Brainbench - TodayIf you want a Microsoft Windows 2000 certification that you can put on your resume today, Brainbench is the only way to go. The company offers three designations: Brainbench Certified - MS Windows 2000 Desktop Administration; Brainbench Certified - MS Windows 2000 Migration; and Brainbench Certified - MS Windows 2000 Server Administration.
