Certification Summary: For individuals who install, configure, and operate LAN, WAN, and dial access services for small to medium-sized networks, ncluding but not limited to use of these protocols: IP, EIGRP, Serial, Frame Relay, VLANs, RIP, Ethernet, and access lists, using Cisco routers and switches.
Initial requirements: There are two paths available to earn CCNA certification. The first is a two-exam format where candidates must pass ICND1 (Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices 1) and ICND2. Passing ICND1 will earn you Cisco's first-level certification the CCENT. These exams cost $125 each. Alternatively, you can take a composite exam that lumps the above two exams into a single sitting, called the CCNA Composite exam, which costs $150. The exams include multipe choice questions, plus experience-based, interactive question types have been incorporated that require cut-and-paste solutions, IP addressing input, and networking simulation comprehension. You must also agree to the Cisco Career Certifications and Confidentiality Agreement.
Continuing requirements:
CCNA certifications are valid for three years. To recertify, either pass the current CCNA exam, or pass the ICND2 exam, or pass any 642 professional level or Cisco Specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist exams), or pass a current CCIE written exam.
