Certification Summary:
This is a Canadian certification that is recognized by law in six provinces (efforts for legislation in other provinces are on-going). It covers a broad spectrum of IT expertise.
Initial requirements:
You must demonstrate mastery of the CIPS Body of Knowledge (BOK) and agree to adhere to the CIPS Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. You must also be a CIPS member. There are several routes to achieving ISP status including:
1. Academic Route - have a full time position as at least associate professor in computer science or MIS at a Canadian university or equivalent, plus be established in your field as a teacher and a researcher.

Initially, I.S.P. holders are given three years in which to acquire their re-certification requirements. Thereafter, re-certification is required annually. The requirements consist of continuing education.
