Certification Summary:
Microsoft Certified Architect (MCA) is the highest level of Microsoft certification and by far the most rigorous and costly. Individuals who wish to become MCAs generally have ten or more years of IT experience, and five or more years of specific architectural experience.
Initial requirements:
There are three tracks to choose from, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL Server, and Windows Server: Directory.
You must hold a valid Microsoft Certified Master (MCM) certification and pay a $125 application fee. You must then prepare a dossier that includes your work history, an architectural solution case study, and a document showing how your skills and work experience directly apply to each of the seven architect competencies. Finally, you must pay a $5000 fee to appear before the Review Board.
Continuing requirements:
Microsoft requires recertification. The requirements change from time to time as the program evolves. The current requirements are communicated to active MCAs and are documented in the program guides.
