Certification Summary:
The RCDD is for professionals in the field of telecommunications distribution design. You may wish to apply for the professional RCDD designation if you are an electrical engineer, telecommunications consultant, data network designer or other design industry specialist. LAN and Outside Plant Design (OSP) specialities are available.
Initial requirements:
You must submit an application fee and take and pass the RCDD exam ($495). BICSI members get a discount. The exam is multiple choice and true/false and takes about 3 hours. To sit for the exam you must first possess a minimum of two years distribution design experience including commercial, campus and multi family buildings, and you'll also have to submit 3 letters of reference.
To add a speciality, you must sit for a additional exam in that specialty, at an additional fee.
Continuing requirements:
Certification lasts for 3 years and expires in December of the third year, after which you must renew. To renew, BICSI requires a minimum of 45 hours of distribution design related courses be completed during these three years. These credits can be obtained by attending BICSI conferences and courses.
