Certification Summary:
For technicians who set up new Red Hat Linux systems and attach them to networks.

Initial requirements: certification training requirement

You must pass a 3 hour hands-on lab exam ($399) administered at Red Hat facilities. The exam consists of two sections: a four problem troubleshooting exercise that lasts an hour, and a two hour installation and configuration exercise.The test is a performance-based test on live equipment that measures actual competencies at system administration, including installation and configuration of a Red Hat Linux system and attaching it to a live network running network services. Associated training is available though not required.

Continuing requirements:
RHCT certification is considered current until after one major released of the Enterprise product i.e. if you have RHCT on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 that it will be valid until the release of Red Hat Enterprise 5. To re-certify for a new release an individual needs to pass the RHCT Certification Lab Exam for the new release. Most individuals who use newer versions of Red Hat professionally will find their skills remain up-to-date.
