Certification Summary: For individuals who wish to demonstrate basic systems administrator skills. The core examination covers the body of knowledge expected of a junior–level system administrator with some experience in the field. The first module exam offered is UNIX; it will be focused on a mixture of System V and BSD. Founding patrons of this certification include SAGE, USENIX, UGU and Taos. As of October 2004 this program was suspended until further notice.
Initial requirements: You must complete a "warranty statement' attesting to experience (can be volunteer) as a system administrator. Next you must pass two exams ($225 each): a vendor-neutral core cSAGE exam that covers basic system administrator tasks plus a platform specific (UNIX) exam. Both exams can be taken in a single session. CompTIA Linux+ certification can be substituted for the cSAGE UNIX exam.
Continuing requirements:
Certification renewal through continuing proficiency requirements is required to maintain certification in active status beyond the expiration date of the certification. Certification renewal is achieved by accumulating a prescribed number of points of acceptable continuing proficiency activity. Certificants must submit a certification renewal application form, and a percentage of certificants will be randomly chosen to be audited for compliance with the terms of the requirements.
