Summary:
For individuals who want to ensure the highest levels of clinical documentation in patient health records and play a leading role in the growth of health informatics and information management.

Initial Requirements:
This certification requires completion of the Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner Exam ($329; $70 discount for AHIMA members) with a minimum score of 300 out of 400. Before taking the exam, candidates must either hold a qualifying AHIMA certification (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P) or medical credential (MD, DO, RN) with at least two years' experience in clinical documentation improvement, or hold an associate's degree or higher (with coursework completed in both Medical Terminology and Anatomy & Physiology) and have at least three years' experience in clinical documentation improvement.

Continuing Requirements:
Must be renewed every two years by completing 30 continuing education units and paying a $150 fee.
