You must hold a VMware Certified Professional - Datacenter Virtualiztation (VCP-DV) certification (formerly VCP5) and pass the VCAP-DCD exam ($400). The exam is lab-based, requiring you to perform tasks using actual equipment. The exam requires you to demonstrate the skills to create a vSphere conceptual, logical, and physical designs as well as create and execute an implementation plan.
