Summary:
For individuals who have basic knowledge and skills of a Tier I support engineer in a prescriptive troubleshooting environment within carrier class IP NGN core network infrastructure. CCNA SP Operations focuses on incident (event), fault, configuration, change, and performance management procedures, along with NMS tools and protocols.

Initial Requirements:
Prerequisite: You must hold a valid CCENT, CCNA Routing & Switching or CCIE certification.

You must also pass an additional exam ($250): Supporting Cisco Service Provider IP NGN Operations (SSPO). The exam covers skills related to configuring, optimizing, and troubleshooting Cisco service provider environments. Associated training is available but not required.

Prior to March 26, 2013, the requirements were different:
There were no prerequisites. There were two required exams ($250 each): Building Cisco Service Provider Next-Generation Networks, Part 1 and Building Cisco Service Provider Next-Generation Networks, Part 2.

Continuing Requirements:
CCNA SP Operations certifications are valid for three years. Generally you can recertify by passing a specified exam or earning a higher-level certification, but check Cisco's website for the current details as they change from time to time.
