BCS: New offices opened in heart of the Square Mile

LONDON (21 October 2019) — BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT’s new offices at Copthall Avenue, near Moorgate have been officially opened at a ceremony by the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Peter Estlin.

 

The Lord Mayor commented: “I’m delighted to help officially open BCS’s new office. The City is home to a world leading tech community, so I welcome BCS choosing Moorgate in the Square Mile as the site for its new London offices.”

 

Speaking at the opening Rob Deri, Group Finance Director, BCS said: “Our new offices will be a hub for creativity and a place where we can increase our engagement with the IT community, both in London and far beyond. It was an honour to welcome the Lord Mayor to officially open our new offices today.”

 

The President of BCS, Michael Grant, who also spoke at the event, said: “Today is about celebrating the future of BCS and our role, as a community, to help create a society where technology is safe and positive for everyone.”

 

The design of the offices includes an airy atrium space that BCS members can use with a coffee station, charging points, screens, seated booths and even a stand-up booth for private phone calls. There’s also a pod named after Alan Turing for more confidential conversations. Plus, there are additional meeting rooms for hire that have also been named after the great and good of IT, including Ada Lovelace and Karen Spärck Jones.

 

BCS aims to make IT good for society and promote wider social and economic progress through the advancement of information technology science and practice. It brings together industry, academics, practitioners and government to share knowledge, promote new thinking, inform the design of new curricula, shape public policy and inform the public.

 

Its membership includes practitioners, businesses, academics and students in the UK and internationally. BCS delivers a range of professional development tools for practitioners and employees and is a leading IT qualification body.
