IAPP Announces Cancellation of IAPP Global Privacy Summit 2020 Due to COVID-19: 'We prioritize the safety of our community'

Portsmouth, N.H. (March 11, 2020) – The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) announced today that it is canceling the IAPP Global Privacy Summit 2020 in light of growing concerns over the spread of COVID-19. The event, which was scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C., April 5-8, expected more than 5,000 participants from 60 countries around the globe.

“This was not an easy decision,” said J. Trevor Hughes, CEO and President of the IAPP. “The IAPP realizes how much energy, effort and time our speakers, sponsors and attendees devote to planning and preparing for an event like this. Ultimately, the IAPP has prioritized the well-being and safety of our community and the communities that our attendees return to, while recognizing the external factors that have made running the Summit impossible,” he added.
