IT Channel Leaders Leave CompTIA ChannelCon 2016 with New Challenges to Tackle

Aug 09, 2016 - Downers grove, Ill. CompTIA ChannelCon, the information technology (IT) industry channel’s premier education and networking event, closed a three-day run in Hollywood, Fla., with a challenge to industry leaders.

From the need to diversify and expand the industry’s workforce to building stronger relationships with customers to raising a collective voice in the legislative halls of government, ChannelCon attendees were encouraged to take on the critical issues facing the industry.

“Each year ChannelCon brings the IT channel’s movers and shakers together to debate and discuss the issues affecting the businesses,” said Kelly Ricker, senior vice president, events and education, CompTIA. “The issues and challenges identified this year – led by significant workforce issues – seem at first blush to be daunting. But ChannelCon attendees left the conference energized and determined to take them on.”

Preliminary attendance reports indicate more than 4,200 people participated in ChannelCon either in person or online. More than 1,000 were on hand in person in South Florida, including representatives from 375 technology solution providers, the companies that provide the vast majority of technology expertise and service for businesses and organizations. ChannelCon Online, the companion virtual conference, attracted another 3,200 attendees.[1]

Overheard at ChannelCon

“Young people just aren’t interested in a career in IT. We need a different approach. It’s a challenge we must accept. How do we convince the workers of the future that IT is a place to be?” – Todd Thibodeaux, CompTIA

“The only way to get great people is to invest in workforce, diversity and social responsibility. You are not going to get the talent you want unless you have those types of commitments.” Heather Terenzio, Techtonic Group

“Learn about investing in ourselves. Understand the need and benefit of diversity. Make more meaningful connections – have the right relationships all the time, not just when you need them. Think differently and lead differently. Make sure you and your company are putting your best everything forward.” Meredith Caram, AT&T Partner Solutions
