Microsoft Office Specialist Champions Crowned in California

 

The big winners of the 2017 Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship didn't need to tell the postgame press scrum last week that they are going to Disneyland. Because they were already there. A first-place winner and two runners-up were crowned in each of six categories during the three-day competition at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, Calif. The long-established competition, conducted by Certiport, pits learners ages 13 through 22 against each other to demonstrate proficiency in three of the key programs included in the Microsoft Office software suite — Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel — for both the 2013 and 2016 releases. The truly international competition, which draws contestants from championship events held at the national level in more than 120 countries, produced just two winners (out of 18) from the United States. The winners in all categories are as follows:

● Champion: Pattarapong Tantikowit (Thailand)
● Second Place: Dheya Madhani (North Carolina, United States)
● Third Place: Sofia Morales Gil (Guatemala)

 

Microsoft Excel 2013
● Champion: JiaXi Dai (China)
● Second Place: Sam Millar (United Kingdom)
● Third Place: Kyriakos Chatziefthymiadis (Greece)

 

Microsoft Excel 2016
● Champion: John Dumoulin (Virginia, United States)
● Second Place: Sarawut Khamset (Thailand)
● Third Place: Jayden Cooke (New Zealand)

 

Winners received cash prizes of $7,000 (champion), $3,500 (second place) and $1,500 (third place).
