Certification Watch (Vol. 21, No. 31)

Happy Birthday to You: 25 Years of A+

What's in the cards for CompTIA's A+ after 25 successful years? Most people who turn 25 are just barely approaching the prime of life. It's a pretty distinguished age, on the other hand, for a technology certification. Yet A+, CompTIA's warhorse tech support credential, turned 25 this year and is still going strong. A feature from the most recent print issue of Certification Magazine, now available online at CertMag.com, takes note of this impressive milestone by looking at the past, present, and future of A+. Technologist Aaron Axline (a frequent contributor to GoCertify) suggests that A+ might be getting to the point of having outlived its usefulness, and could be ripe to be either replaced altogether or split into two or more credentials that separately address its increasingly broad subject matter.
