Get a Certification in Just Eight Simple Steps

Get certified in just eight simple steps! In 2002, the late John Ritter revealed that he had 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter. (Fun fact: Then 17-year-old Kaley Cuoco, who would go on a few years later to become the dream girl neighbor in The Big Bang Theory, played the teenage daughter to whom the rules apply.) Earlier this week, blogger Debra B. McCraw revealed that there are eight steps (most of which are at least somewhat simple) to getting an IT certification. McCraw's manifesto, which appeared at the IT Career News blog of tech industry association CompTIA, kicks in after the point at which a prospective certificant has targeted a specific cert, and walks through the process from there. For example, the first thing you need to do is find out what the exam objectives are. That leads directly to Step 2, which is to figure out what you already know regarding those objectives and what you will need to learn in the process of preparing to the take the exam. Certification can seem intimidating to anyone who's never done it, and even to those who have, so it's nice to see an outline of the entire process and wrap your head around what needs to happen at each point along the way.
