TestOut Conference Focuses on Certification and Education

Ken Toth speaks at the 2019 Experience Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.IT certification and education provider TestOut, which offers its own lineup of performance-based certifications and also provides training for popular credentials from other established certification providers like CompTIA, Microsoft, and Cisco, is meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, this week with tech educators from across the United States. TestOut uses web-based simulation technology for both teaching and testing purposes, challenging learners (and exam candidates) to actually carry out various IT functions and processes instead of just responding to multiple-choice questions. The company is in the process of adding two new credentials to its "Pro" line of certifications — the digital literacy-focused IT Fundamentals Pro, and a new cybersecurity cert, Ethical Hacker Pro — with new training for both showcased at the 2019 Experience Conference. Also among the presentations at the event are numerous discussions of IT certification and IT education. Frequently, both topics have been addressed simultaneously, as during a Wednesday morning session when presenter Ken Toth, an instructor at Careerline Tech Center in Holland, Mich., discussed methods of encouraging certification among students: Toth's 11th- and 12th-grade students (Careerline works with several Michigan public school districts) earned more than 250 tech certifications over the 2018-19 school year.
