Five Things to Do During Lockdown to Address Your Career Growth

Tips to keep your IT career on its toes during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the COVID-19 pandemic exerting tremendous pressure on employers, there are more than 30 million Americans who have gotten the proverbial pink slip since early March. Few if any IT professionals can directly control whether or not they remain employed, but career management executive Caitlin McGaw, in a post to the ISACA Now Blog of cybersecurity and IT governance association ISACA, has advice for those attempting to quell the pangs of employment uncertainty. Given both her background and her immediate audience, it's not surprising that McGaw's tips are tailored to IT governance professionals. Workers across the IT spectrum, however, including both those already out of work and those simply wary of the ongoing employment tremors, can benefit from reviewing her list. Of particular interest to those who hang out around GoCertify is the fifth item on her list, about keeping your certifications current. In McGaw's words, "Many employers view a certification as an absolute must-have for promotion to leadership roles. As an executive recruiter, I can say categorically that candidates with a certification are preferred over candidates with no relevant certification. If you haven’t earned a certification in a few years, think about where you are heading in your career and what certification will support your next move." Solid advice.
