Two MCSA/MCSE 2003 Core Exams Near Beta

Microsoft has announced that two core exams on the MCSA/MCSE tracks will be available in beta format June 4-15th. The exams are 70-290: Managing and Maintaining a Windows Server 2003 Environment; and 70-291: Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure. Passing these two exams completes the networking systems core requirement for the MCSA 2003 track. In order to achieve MCSA certification, a client operating system core exam is also required, as well as 1 elective exam. Microsoft beta exams are not open to all comers, but are by invitation only. Invitations are usually sent to qualified subscribers of Microsoft's certification newsletter, MCP Newsflash.

Cisco CCIE Recertification Policy Changed, Dial Exam in Beta

Effective June 15th 2003, individuals certified under Cisco's CCIE program will be able to complete recertification requirements by passing any written CCIE exam available at the time of recertification. Prior to this policy change, only the recertification exam that was tied to the specific certification track would qualify. CCIEs are required to recertify every two years.

In other CCIE news, the CCIE Communications and Services Dial Written exam will be available in beta format from June 9, 2003 to June 30, 2003. The two hour multiple choice exam contains approximately 50% general knowledge questions, with the remaining half covering dial technology. In addition to passing the written exam, successful candidates on this track will have to achieve at least 80% on a one day, 8 hour hands-on lab exam covering general communications and services knowledge. Cisco exams are administered through Prometric and Pearson VUE testing networks. For full exam objectives see Cisco's Web site.

New CCNP Exams Near Release

New exams for Cisco's CCNP track are nearing release. Exam 642-801 is scheduled for availability June 20th, 642-821 BCRAN for July 2, and 642-831 CIT for July 10, 2003. The fourth CCNP exam, 643-811 BCMSN is listed on Cisco's Web site as being in beta. Exam blueprints are available on Cisco's Web site.

New Tivoli Exam from IBM

Individuals who work with Tivoli Storage Resource Manager can now earn the title of IBM Certified Deployment Professional -- Tivoli Storage Resource Manager V1.2. The new exam, #000-789, is available through Prometric and VUE testing centers and costs $150 in the U.S.

SAS webAF Server-side Application Development Exam now available

The SAS Certified Professional Program has recently released the SAS webAF Server-side Application Development Exam in beta form at a reduced fee of $75 USD - 50% off the cost of the production exam.

Candidates for this exam should have at least 3 years of practical work experience designing and developing advanced information delivery applications using SAS Software, including SAS webAF technology, and understand object-oriented techniques and principles. Like other exams in the recently redesigned SAS Certified Professional Program, this exam is not directly tied to a specific version of SAS.

New Expert Level IP Telephony Certifications

Nortel Networks has released the first Expert-level exams for IP Telephony certification.

CallPilot 2.0 Unified Messaging Solutions, exam number 920-466, is one of two exams required to earn Support Expert - IP Convergence CallPilot 2.0 Unified Messaging Solutions certification. Meridian 1 IP Enabled 25.40, exam number 920-456, is one of two exams required for Support Expert - IP Convergence Meridian 1 IP Enabled 25.40 certification. This exam will be released June 3. Both of these certifications also require the successful completion of IP Convergence, exam number 920-802. Expert candidates must also have the appropriate VoIP Specialist-level certification prior to challenging the Expert exams.

Another addition to Nortel Networks growing IP Telephony portfolio is a new Design Specialist certification for VoIP Succession Business Communication Manager (BCM) 3.0. This certification requires the Succession BCM 3.0 exam, number 920-125, along with the VoIP Technology exam, number 920-801.
