Cisco Launches New Specialist Title, Revamps Content Networking Exam
Cisco Systems has added unified communications design to the Cisco Qualified Specialist program. The Cisco Unified Communications Design Specialist designation, is for individuals who install, configure, operate, and maintain a Cisco Unity 4.0 system in both stand-alone voice mail and unified messaging environments and possesses the knowledge and expertise necessary to create a variety of sustainable Cisco Unity design solutions tailored specific customer requirements. Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) certification is a required prerequisite. MCSE certification with emphasis on Microsoft Exchange is strongly recommended, though not required. The required exam is available through both Thomson Prometric and Pearson VUE testing centers.
In other Cisco certification news, A new Content Networking Specialist exam (CN 642-342) will be available simultaneously with the previous version (9E0-600). The last day to register for 9E0-600 is October 20, 2004.
CompTIA Server+ Beta Available August 2nd
CompTIA's revamped Server+ exam will be available in beta format starting August 2nd, 2004. The new exam reflects changes that affected over 40 objectives and sub-objectives. According to CompTIA, the new exam no longer focuses on break/fix skills, but rather covers the entire server lifecycle from design and implementation through troubleshooting and support. A major new section covers general knowledge of server hardware. The beta exam (SK1-002) costs $75 and is available through Pearson VUE or Thomson Prometric (2test.com) test centers. CompTIA Network+ to be Upgraded
CompTIA has announced plans to update the Network+ certification exam in 2005. Candidates who are studying the current objectives should register for the exam as soon as possible so as to test under the current objectives. The new exam will have an increased focus on network support and implementation, and slightly less coverage of protocols and standards. The updated exam is slated for release at the conclusion of the 2004-2005 academic year.
Zend Launches PHP Certification Program
Zend Technologies Ltd recently announced the creation of PHP certification program for developers. To obtain the Zend Certified PHP Engineer designation, candidates must pass one exam covering a broad variety of PHP details. As of this writing there is no official objectives list posted on the Zend Web site, but hopefully one will appear soon. Otherwise, candidates will be forced to purchase the "Offical Zend PHP Certification Guide" for $29.99 (available from Amazon.com) or for a tad less if you buy the electronic version directly from the Zend Web site. Oracle Database 10g Administrator Certified Associate Exam in Beta
The beta version of the Oracle Database 10g Administration 1 exam is available in beta format from July 30-September 4, 2004. The beta exam (#1Z1-042) costs $50 and is available online. Passing score is 75% (45 of 60 questions) and the time limit is 90 minutes. Objectives are available on Oracle's Web site. Testing is through Prometric. The beta exam may close early if the beta seats are filled before the ending date.
