Microsoft Exam 70-301 Released, Another MSF Option

Microsoft Exam 70-301: Managing, Organizing, and Delivering IT Projects by Using Microsoft Solutions Framework 3.0 is now available in Prometric and VUE testing centers. Candidates include consultants, technology professionals, developers, and project managers who lead teams that use Microsoft Solutions Framework 3.0 to deliver business-driven technology solutions. Passing the exam counts toward MCP, MCSE on Windows Server 2003 (elective) and MCSD for Microsoft .NET (elective) certifications.

There is actually another Microsoft Solutions Framework exam already available, for individuals who want to earn the title of MSF Practitioner. This exam, 074-100, is a separate Microsoft program and the exam is only available through Prometric testing centers. Microsoft calls the Practitioner designation an endorsement, rather than a certification. You can learn more about in our article announcing Microsoft's MSF Practitioner program.

Cisco Launches Unity Support Specialist Certifications

If you install, configure, or maintain a Cisco Unity 4.0 system, you will be interested to learn that a new Cisco Unity Support Specialist certification is now available. This Cisco Systems Specialist certification requires candidates to first hold either MCSE: Messaging on Windows Server 2000, or MCSE: Messaging on Windows Server 2003 certification. In addition you must pass the Cisco Unified Communications System Engineer exam. Individuals who customize Unity solutions should consider earning the Cisco Unity Design Specialist, recently renamed from its original designation: Cisco Unified Communications Design Specialist.

CCIE Now Includes Storage Networking Certification

In other Cisco certification news, starting November 18, the CCIE program will include expert level certification exams in storage networking. Like other CCIE certifications, a CCIE in Storage Networking will require passing both a written exam and a hands-on lab exam. A beta version of the CCIE Storage Networking written exam will be available from November 18, 2004 through December 16, 2004 for a reduced price of $50. The final version of the exam, along with the corresponding lab exam, is slated for release in the first quarter of 2005. For more details see the Cisco Web site.

FC SAN Storage Management/Administration beta Available, Special GoCertify Discount

The Storage Networking Industry Associate (SNIA) is offering a beta version of its new FC SAN Storage Management/Administration exam. Passing the exam counts toward the SNIA Certified Systems Engineer (SCSE) credential. The SNIA Storage Network Foundations (S10-100) is also needed to earn that credential.

The price for the beta (which is expected to last throughout this month) is $100. Space is limited so if you are interested take action promptly.

In other SNIA news, the FC SAN Practitioner and FC SAN Specialist exams are scheduled to be retired December 31, 2004. This is part of the transition to the new certification program structure.

Citrix Announces Pending Exam Retirements

Citrix Systems has announced plans to retire four exams on January 15, 2005. The retiring exams are:

  • 218 Citrix MetaFrame 1.8
  • 910 Citrix Resource Management Services
  • 920 Citrix Installation Management Services
  • 930 Citrix Secure ICA/Security
New candidates will need to pass more recent versions of the CCA or CCEA certification exams.
