Certification Watch Volume 13 #4

Certification news regarding Oracle's incorporation of Sun certifications, exam pricing changes for Oracle and Juniper Networks, IBM Lotus certification, and SAP BusinessObjects certification changes.

Oracle University Gathers in Sun Certification

Oracle is well into the process of transitioning the Sun certification program under the Oracle umbrella. They've moved over the Sun certification information to their website and offer related instructor-led and self-paced training. All Sun certification programs continue fully up and running. Although existing Sun certification exam vouchers will be honored and can be used in the same way as they would have before, going forward it will no longer be necessary to purchase a voucher separately before registering for an exam. Both are completed at the same time on the Prometric website. A transition FAQ that also answers general certification questions can be found on the Oracle University website.

Oracle, Juniper Networks Exam Prices Change

Oracle announced an exam price hike as of March 1. Under the new pricing structure, all non-proctored (i.e. internet-based) exams worldwide cost $125, proctored Oracle exams are now $195, and proctored Sun exams are $300. Note that the prices for emerging-market countries are generally lower. Vouchers already purchased remain valid. Oracle reports this is the first material price change they have made since their certification program was launched.

The prices of Juniper Networks certification exams changed on March 1 as well. The cost of taking a practical exam for a Juniper Networks JNCIP or JNCIE certification increased from $1250 to $1400. The Specialist level exams have gone up to $200 each. The Associate level certification exam price has actually been lowered, to $100 (from $125) per certification.

New IBM Lotus Certification

The new IBM Certified Advanced Application Developer - Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5 certification is for individuals who build and maintain Domino 8.5 applications with LotusScript, JavaScript, or Web Services, or who can build and deploy composite applications with Notes Domino 8.5. You must first hold the standard IBM Application Developer certification for Lotus Notes and Domino 8.5 and then pass 1 additional exam from a list of 7 options covering LotusScript, JavaScript, or Web Services.

SAP Realigns BusinessObjects Certifications

SAP has announced that as of April 2010, all existing SAP BusinessObjects certification exams will be retired and replaced by three new SAP Certified Associate BusinessObjects exams: SAP Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.x, Crystal Reports 2008, and BusinessObjects Web Intelligence XI 3.x. For the registration codes for the new exams, which will be available through Pearson VUE centers and SAP Education centers, see the SAP announcement page.
