Certification Watch Volume 13 #6

Certification news regarding a new Green IT offering from CompTIA, cough a waiver option for CCIE candidates, Teradata 12 certification, and beta exams from Brocade.

CompTIA Introduces Green IT Certificate

A new CompTIA Strata Green IT certificate promises to demonstrate that you know all about making an organization eco-friendly from an IT perspective. If you need a blueprint for learning about power management, environmentally sound waste disposal, calculating ROI for green IT programs and the like, or if you already know it and want to show it, check out the objectives. Less in-depth and less expensive than a full-blown certification, the exam has just 30 questions, a 1-hour time limit, and costs $99.

Cisco Adds CCIE Core Knowledge Waiver Option

As of April 1, 2010, students who attend a Cisco CCIE Routing and Switching or Voice workshop can request a waiver allowing them to skip the core knowledge section of the CCIE lab exam and jump straight to the next section without using up any testing time. No end date has been set for this program, but you must request the waiver 45 days in advance of taking the lab exam and within 1 year of completing the workshop. A FAQ is available.

Teradata 12 Certified Master Exam Arrives, V2R5 Exams Go

The capstone exam of the Teradata certification program, the Teradata 12 Comprehensive Mastery Exam, is now open for beta registration. Only candidates who are already certified as a Master on another Teradata version can take this in beta form. Later it will be available to anyone who completes the 6 other Teradata 12 exams. Passing it leads to the Teradata 12 Certified Master credential. To sign up, you'll need to visit Teradata's beta page and select a date between May 3 and June 3, 2010. All of the V2R5 exams were retired on March 31, but because the Teradata certifications are version specific, the certifications earned with discontinued exams remain valid.

Two Betas from Brocade

Brocade has announced that the exam for it's newest designation, Brocade Certified FCoE Professional, will be available at no cost in beta format through April 23, 2010. Use the code FCoE2010Beta to register for exam 142 510. In addition, the Brocade Layer 4 7 exam will be available in beta from April 16 through May 18, 2010. Use promo code BCLP2010Beta and exam number 152 420 when you register. Each exam contains approximately 190 questions and has a 4 hour time limit. Testing is through PearsonVUE. Preparation materials are available on the Brocade website.
