Certification Watch Volume 13 #12

Certification news regarding regarding a merger of convergence technology certifications, anabolics availability of an updated Cisco CCIE Voice exam and the new hands-on exam component of CCIE SP Operations, Novell Identity Manager certification, and the retirement of two Sun certifications.

Convergence+, Convergence Technology Professional (CTP) to Merge
In the latest certification merger involving CompTIA, its entry level Convergence+ certification will be combined with the Convergent Technologies Professional (CTP) designation offered by Certification Partners, creating a new certification named CompTIA CTP+. The new certification covers basic requirements analysis, along with implementation and management of integrated data, voice, and video technologies. CTP+ is a vendor-neutral certification, testing industry-common skills and job role knowledge rather than vendor-specific knowledge. The current Convergence+ and CTP exams will remain available through October 31, 2010, after which the CTP+ will take over. Individuals who hold the original certifications will still be considered certified even after the exams are retired. The official CTP+ announcement can be read in GoCertify's certification industry press releases section.

CCIE Voice Written Exam Refreshed

An updated version of the CCIE Voice written exam, V3.0, will take effect starting October 12, 2010. A summary of the V3.0 exam topics is available on Cisco's website, although it is rather sparse in detail. Individuals scheduled to take the exam before October 12 should prepare using the V2.0 exam blueprint. Both versions contain 100 multiple choice questions and have a 2-hour time limit.

CCIE SP Operations Practical Exam Now Available

In other Cisco CCIE news, the hands on practical exam for CCIE Service Provider (SP) Operations certification is now available. The 8-hour exam, which costs $1400, consists of a 3-hour section of scenario based questions and a 5-hour troubleshooting section in which candidates must diagnose and correct network faults. A list of exam topics is available on Cisco's website, but you will have to register to view it. Is all the time and expense put into a CCIE worth it? A frequently updated CCIE Salary Chart is available on GoCertify's CCIE page (scroll down) to help you decide.

Certified Novell Identity Manager Administrator in the Works

Novell's forthcoming Certified Novell Identity Manager Administrator (CNIMA) designation is scheduled to go live in January 2011. Although the available information is still sketchy, topics covered will include Novell Identity Manager 4 administration as well as entitlements, and workflows and roles provisioning. Two associated training courses are in the works, and exam objectives should be posted on Novell's website in December.

Oracle Retires Two Sun Certifications

The Sun Certified Java CAPS Integrator and Sun Certified Integrator for Identity Manager 7.1 certifications were retired on August 1st. Individuals who hold these certifications are still considered to be certified, but no one else can earn them going forward.
