Time is Running Out for "Lifetime" CompTIA Certifications

Starting January 1, 2011, individuals who earn CompTIA's A+, Security+, and Network+ certifications will have to renew them every 3 years. Previously these were considered "lifetime" credentials, and updated exams were issued but not required. This change, which stirred up quite a bit of controversy when originally announced, will ultimately create a stronger CompTIA certification program. A certification renewal policy FAQ is available to aid the transition.

(ISC)2 Apologizes for CISSP Scoring Mistake

In case you missed it in our blog, the (ISC)2 recently revealed a serious error in CISSP exam scoring which occurred in late September and early October. The error, which resulted in some candidates who passed being told they had failed and vice versa, was apparently related to a transfer to a new testing provider.

Objectives for New Security+ Exam Published

Although the exam won't go live until late 2011, CompTIA recently posted the objectives for the next version of its Security+ certification (Security+ exam, which was launched in late 2002 and updated in 2008.

Cisco CCDA, CCDP Exams Updated

A new CCDA DESGN exam will hit testing centers December 16. The main changes are the addition of new material on virtualization and reduced emphasis on wireless and voice infrastructures. The new exam is numbered 640-864 and replaces 640-863, which will remain available through April 30, 2011.

An updated CCDP ARCH exam will also arrive in testing centers soon. The new exam (642-874) incorporates new material on data centers and virtualization, evaluation of service providers, and design of IPS and IDS security solutions. The previous ARCH exam (642-873) will remain available through May 7, 2011. Exam blueprints for both of the new tests are available on Cisco's website.

TIBCO Boosts Exam Pricing

TIBCO will open the new year by raising exam prices. As of January 1, 2011, TIBCO certification exams will cost $300 each instead of $250.
