CompTIA Need for Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) Growing

CompTIA's need for working IT pros to help define and create future exams continues to expand. Current projects include Network+, A+, Security+, CDIA+, and Storage+ certification updates. See the CompTIA website for opportunities to participate.

Cisco Drops Core Knowledge Questions from More CCIE Lab Exams

Effective August 15, 2011, the four open-ended core knowledge questions presented at the beginning of the CCIE Security and CCIE Storage Networking lab exams will be dropped. This is the same change that was made to the CCIE R&S and CCIE Voice Lab exams a little over a year ago, after Cisco determined that other parts of the CCIE exams adequately assess the same skills.

The list includes the venerable 70-282, an MCSE Windows Server 2003 exam which has been in testing centers since December 2003, which will end its long run on September 30, 2011. Other exams scheduled to retire include:

- MCTS System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 exam 70-403 and Windows Server Virtualization exam 70-652 (Sept 2011)

CISSP, SSCP Changes Coming Next Year

A few changes are in the works for the CISSP, SSCP, and ISSEP credentials next year. This is part of ISC(2) standard 3-year review cycle for these certifications. According to ISC(2), this is more of a re-organization and update rather than a major makeover. The names of some CISSP and ISSEP domains have been revised, content has been shifted from one domain to another, individual items have been updated, and coverage of new technologies has been added.

These changes will be reflected in the exams and experience requirements in 2012, starting with the CISSP in January, followed by the SSCP in February and the ISSEP in March. The detailed objectives for these credentials can be downloaded from the ISC(2) website.
