IDC Studies Pick Market Leaders in Key Certification Categories

Newly released reports from IDC MarketScape profile the markets for key IT certification categories and assesses the vendors offering certifications in each of them. IDC's picks for the top vendors in each category are:

 - Security Management: CompTIA, Microsoft, Symantec
 - Networking: HP, IBM, Novell
 - Server Management: IBM

Although the full studies are quite costly, you can read an interesting sampling of findings in the IDC press release for free.

Expect Tougher Exams for Oracle Java SE7 Certification

Oracle has announced that the next version of its Java certifications will be tougher and more comprehensive. The Oracle Certified Associate (OCA), Java SE 7 Programmer exam, which is already available, is now a required prerequisite to the Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Java SE 7 Programmer credential. Per Oracle, the associate level exam has undergone significant changes, and the professional exam (to be released later this year) is both broader and deeper in scope than the previous version. An upgrade exam is available to current SCJP and OCP JP certification holders. For objectives and suggested certification paths, visit the Oracle website.

Brocade Updates SAN Certifications

Brocade has updated its Brocade Certified Fabric Administrator (BCFA) and Brocade Certified Fabric Professional (BCFP) to cover 16 Gbps technology. The existing versions of these exams will retire on December 31, 2011. The Brocade Certified SAN Manager (BCSM) will also retire on December 31. It will be replaced by a new certification for Brocade Network Advisor in March.

New Advanced GIAC Security Certification Released

The newest addition to the GIAC certification collection is the GIAC Exploit Researcher and Advanced Penetration Tester (GXPN). It is for individuals who assess networks, systems, and applications for vulnerabilities by modeling the behaviors of an advanced attacker. A list of knowledge areas covered is available on the GIAC site.
