Cisco Adds Wireless LAN CertificationsThe Cisco certification program is expanding into the wireless arena with the addition of two new Specialist titles: Cisco Wireless LAN Support Specialist and Cisco Wireless LAN Design Specialist. Both titles demonstrates knowledge of radio technologies associated with WLAN 802.11 standards, WLAN topologies and applications, product configuration, WLAN security methods, basic antenna theory, and additional topics.To earn the Support Specialist title, candidates must first hold Cisco CCNA certification, and then pass the Wireless LAN for Field Engineers (WLANFE 9E0-581) exam. For the Design Specialist certification, candidates must first hold Cisco CCDA certification, and then pass the Wireless LAN for Sales Engineers (WLANSE 9E0-576) exam. Cisco specialist exams cost $125, FC SAN Specialist Exam Goes LiveThe Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) recently launched the exam for the Fibre Channel SAN Specialist (FC SAN Specialist) certification. This single-exam certification is the third level offered in the SNIA Storage Networking Certification Program. Topics covered include: Fibre Channel operation; FC SAN Implementation; Identification and implementation of FC-SAN Software; Performance measurement; Management tools; Troubleshooting; and Evaluation. The exam is available through Prometric testing centers and costs $365.The first two levels of the SNIA FC SAN program are Professional and Practitioner. At the FC SAN Professional level, intended for sales and marketing professionals, candidates demonstrate basic knowledge of FC SAN terminology and principles. The second level, FC SAN Practitioner, certifies fundamental technical knowledge of features, functions, and technologies underlying Fibre Channel SANs. A fourth level, FC SAN Expert, is planned. Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional To Launch Dec 12Juniper Networks has announced plans to add a new certification to its Juniper Networks Technical Certification Program (JNTCP) starting December 12, 2002. The new title, Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP), is designed to validate a candidate's ability to configure and troubleshoot common routing scenarios.To earn this title, candidates must pass an 8 hour hands on exam, which requires them to build a fully functional ISP network consisting of 10 M-series platform routers. After performing basic system and interface configuration, candidates implement an IGP, interior and exterior BGP, and routing policy. The addition of the JNCIP title expands the Juniper Networks certification program from three levels to four. The JNCIP exam costs $1250 and is only available at Juniper Networks locations. The JNCIP title will become the new prerequisite to the most advanced Juniper Networks title: Juniper Networks Certified Internet Expert (JNCIE). The original JNCIE exam, which spans two days, will be retired December 12, 2002 and replaced with a new one day, 8 hour format. Page 1 of 2 1 2
