Coming Soon: MCSA/MCSE 2003 Tracks

Information on Microsoft's Training and Certification Web site reveals that a new, 2003 certification track is in the works for both MCSA and MCSE certifications. Details of the new tracks will be released early in 2003. Until then, Microsoft has posted some preliminary information on what candidates should expect.

Perhaps the most welcome bit of news is that individuals who completed the many exams necessary to earn certification on Windows 2000 will not have to go through nearly as many exams to earn certification on Windows Server 2003. Instead, an upgrade path consisting of one or two standard length exams will be offered. Also of note, the 2003 tracks will be entirely separate from the 2002 tracks. Candidates will not be able to combine exams from both product lines to earn certification, as initially planned. Upgrade information, plus complete details of the 2003 tracks, are slated for an early 2003 release. A few more FAQs can be found on the Microsoft site.

Microsoft Security Exam Live

In other Microsoft news, exam 70-214: Implementing and Administering Security in a Windows 2000 Environment is available in Prometric and VUE testing centers as of January 15th. The exam counts as an elective toward the MCSA and MCSE Windows 2000 certifications, and measures ability to implement and administer security and network infrastructures that use Windows 2000 and Active Directory. Full exam information is available on Microsoft's Web site.

Dell Launches Certified Enterprise Engineer Program

Individuals who want to certify their expertise with Dell hardware can now do so through the new Dell Certified Enterprise Engineer (DCEE) program. The program consists of four tracks, with most tracks offering four ascending skill levels. The tracks are; PowerEdge Server, Systems Management, Business Continuity, and Network Storage. The levels are Foundation, Associate, Master, and Master Instructor. The number of exams required at each level varies by track. In some cases there is only one exam, in others as many as three. For all but the first level, attendance at hands-on training is required. Testing for the DCEE program is through Prometric, but before registering for an exam you must purchase a voucher from Dell.

See Dell's Web site for further information. Or email them at US_Training@dell.com. If you put GoCertify DCEE in the subject line of your email, they'll even give you 10% off the retail price of any foundation courses you buy in January.
