Novell Certified Linux Engineer (CLE) Forthcoming

During BrainShare 2003 earlier this month, Novell announced that its next version of NetWare will include substantial Linux support. In order to provide the training and certification to go along with that, Novell is planning to add a Novell Certified Linux Engineer (CLE) designation to its certification offerings.

Although final details of what this certification will entail are not yet available, Novell is recommending that candidates earn the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) Level 1 certification en route to the Novell CLE designation. Further details will be posted on GoCertify.com as they become available.

Apple Offers Specialization Exams

Starting May 2, 2003, Apple Computer will offer Web based specialization exams covering selected technical topics. Although these exams are not currently part of Apple's certification tracks, they can provide evidence (in the form of a certificate) of expertise with particular areas.

The first specialization exam, Mac OS X Client Management v10.2, is intended for technical coordinators and system administrators who are tasked with planning, setting up, and centrally managing Mac OS X-based systems in their organizations. Register through the Apple Certifications Web site to take the exam online.

Cisco Updates CCNP, Adds More Simulations to Exams

Cisco Systems is launching four new exams and associated courses for its Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) title. Although the number of required exams and the titles of those exams remain the same as they are now, students and exam takers can expect to encounter more simulation type questions, as well as updated content. Candidates pursuing CCNP using the previous exams have until August 7, 2003 to register for those exams.

CISSP Adds Management and Architecture Extensions

The well-established CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) program from (ISC)2 will now offer two additional concentrations that individuals who already hold the CISSP title can earn to further build up their credentials in the career arenas of management or technology. The first exams are scheduled for July 2003.

The Management concentration will focus on extensive knowledge of Enterprise Security Management Practices; Enterprise-wide Systems Development Security; Operations Security Compliance; Business Continuity Planning, Disaster Recovery Planning and Continuity of Operations Planning; and Law, Investigation, Forensics and Ethics.

The Architecture concentration is intended to validate extensive expertise with Access Control, Telecommunications and Methodology; Telecommunications and Network Security; Cryptography; Requirements Analysis and Security Standards/Guidelines Criteria; Technology-Related Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery Planning; and Physical Security Integration.
