CompTIA Linux+ Beta Available
A beta version of CompTIA's revised entry level Linux+ exam will be available at a reduced price of $75 for the next 8 weeks. Roughly 19 percent of the 2004 Linux+ exam covers installation, 20 percent configuration, 26 percent management and maintenance, 21 percent security, six percent documentation, and eight percent Linux hardware.

To register for the beta exam, sign up as soon as possible online through Thompson Prometric or Pearson VUE testing centers. Reference exam ID #XK1-002.

Cisco Modifies Recertification Requirements
As of Oct 1, 2004, passing any CCIE written exam will recertify Cisco Qualified specialist, associate and professional level certifications. Cisco reports making this change so that candidates can complete recertification requirements while in the course of pursuing CCIE certification.

Due to additional recent changes, candidates have the added option of recertifying the CCNP and/or CCDP titles either by passing the 642-891 Composite exam, or by passing both the 642-801 BSCI and 642-811 BCMSN exams. CCIP recertification can be accomplished by passing the 642-691 BGP+MPLS exam; or by passing both the 642-661 BGP and 642-611 MPLS exams.

Cisco Optical Exam Revised
In other Cisco certification news, the CCIE Optical written exam will be updated as of October 1, 2004. After that date, candidates should refer to the Optical 2.0 Written Exam Blueprint when preparing for this test. It can be found on Cisco's certification Web site. This page also contains links to exam blueprints for DSL, Cable, WAN Switching, IP Telephony, Dial, Content Networking, and the Metro Ethernet Beta written exams.

2005 CISA Exam Dates Set
The next Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) exam will be held on June 11, 2005. The early registration deadline is February 2, 2005, and the final registration deadline is March 30, 2005. More than 15,000 candidates are expected to register for CISA exams this year. If you want to be one of them, you can sign up on the ISACA Web site.
