Novell CLP Practicum Now Live, Temporarily FreeIndividuals who administer a Linux server or network can now certify their expertise through Novell. Although the theoretical basics covered are common to any Linux distribution, the test specifically focuses on the SUSE Linux distribution. Earning Novell's Certified Linux Professional (CLP) designation requires passing a scenario-based, hands-on practical exam (050-689) that must be taken at a practicum administration location. You can find the list of locations through Novell's list of testing centers. Until the end of December 2004, you can take this practicum for free. The final price (starting Jan 1) has not been set.
CompTIA Seeks Beta Testers for Network+ UpgradeThe Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) announced that it is seeking experienced network administrators and network support technicians to be beta testers for the 2005 upgrade of the CompTIA Network+ certification. The beta exam will be available beginning Monday, Nov. 29. Interested candidates can obtain a voucher to take the beta exam for free, by completing a pre-exam survey on the CompTIA Web site.The Network+ certificate validates knowledge mastery equivalent to 12 months of network administration and network support experience. The exam covers best practices in media and topologies, protocols and standards, network implementation and network support.
CompTIA Linux+ Beta ExtendedCompTIA has announced that the beta period for the new Linux+ exam has been extended to December 31. Previously it was slated to end Dec 1. The beta exam is available at the discounted price of $75. To register for the Linux+ beta exam, sign up as soon as possible online through Thompson Prometric or Pearson VUE testing centers. Reference exam ID #XK1-002.
