New Database Certification from CIW

The CIW (Certified Internet Webmaster) program has added a new certification to its vendor neutral certification program. The CIW Database Design Specialist is a one exam certification that focuses on universal database design principles and SQL. The exam will be released March 15 and will replace the CIW Database Specialist designation. You can view the objectives on the CIW Web site.

PMI Starts Development on Two New Project Management Certifications

The Project Management Institute (PMI), vendor of the Project Management Professional (PMP certification, among others, is planning to develop new credentials for project risk and for project scheduling. These are currently in the development phase and are expected to be released later this year.

Several Java Exams Discontinued

Sun has retired several of Java certification exams as of February 29, 2008, including Sun Certified Web Component Developer (SCWCD) exams for Enterprise Edition 1.4, Sun Certified Business Component Developer (SCBCD) for Enterprise Edition 1.3, and the three exams for Sun Certified Enterprise Architect (SCEA) for the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (CX-310-051, CX-310-300A, and CX-310-061). If you already have a voucher, you have until April 30, 2008 to take the SCWCD or SCBCD exams and December 13th to complete all 3 parts of the retiring SCEA exams.

SAS Data Warehousing Exams Retiring

SAS recently announced plans to retire its Data Warehousing credentials effective December 31, 2008. A new program focusing on data integration technology will be offered instead. Data Warehousing credentials expire 3 years from the date of issue.

Certiport Delivers 1 Million Certification Exams in 1 Year

Certiport, which administers the Certiport Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³), the official Microsoft Office certifications and, most recently, the Adobe Certified Associate announced that it delivered more than 1 million certification exams over the 365 days ending February 5th, equivalent to one exam taken somewhere in the world every 30 seconds. And that is just one testing network, so there is certainly a lot of certification testing going on out there!

Microsoft Second Shot to Run Through June 30

Microsoft extended its Second Shot offer through June 30, 2008, which means you can get a free retake for any IT professional, developer, project manager, or Microsoft Dynamics certification exam. You must sign up for Second Shot before you take the exam the first time.
