Welcome to the first edition of Certification Watch for 2009! We've been bringing you the latest technical certification news for over 12 years now and have no plans to stop any time soon. This issue begins with a look at current actual job listings seeking certified professionals, a topic near and dear to our hearts, followed by news from the popular Project Management Professional, Citrix, and Cisco CCIE certification programs. Enjoy!

Certification in Job Openings
Although we've conducted roundups of certification totals in the past, this time we decided to approach it from the direction of actual job openings that specify one or more certifications as a desired or required applicant qualification. It turned out to be a bit much to fit in the newsletter, so we've summarized the results in a brief article you can read here on GoCertify.com, titled "Job Openings for the Certified."

PMI to Update Exams with Release of New PMBOK
The Project Management Institute (PMI) released the fourth edition of its Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) on December 31, 2008. As a consequence, the PMI exams will be updated in 2009 to reflect the new PMBOK. The Project Management Professional (PMP) exam will be updated on June 30 and the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) on July 31. The Scheduling Professional (PMI SP), Risk Management Professional (PMI RMP), and Program Management Professional (PgMP) exams will all be updated on August 31. If you are planning to take your exam before its updated version is scheduled to be released, PMI recommends that you continue to use the PMBOK - Third Edition to prepare.

Restructured Citrix Program Incorporates Training and Experience Requirements
Citrix Systems is continuing its rollout of a major certification program makeover that began in late October. As with the original Citrix program, there are 3 levels of certification administrator, engineer, and architect, but the specifics within those levels have changed substantially. For example, there is a new Citrix Certified Advanced Administrator (CCAA) title at the administrator level, a Citrix Certified Enterprise Engineer (CCEE) designation at the engineer level, and a completely revised Citrix Certified Integration Architect (CCIA) for the Citrix XenApp 5 credential. The CCAA is the first Citrix credential that requires attending an advanced training course as well as passing the exam. The new CCIA credential, which is planned for the first half of 2009, will include a yet to be specified experience requirement. GoCertify will bring you more details on the new program requirements as the rollout continues.

CCIE Security Lab to be Updated in April
Cisco will be releasing a modified version of its CCIE Security lab exam to assure candidates have the most current security skills. According to Cisco, the new lab exam (v3.0) will be significantly different than the current one (v.2.0), and candidates planning to test after the scheduled release date of mid April 2009 should prepare using the new objectives and software versions. A list of the relevant v3.0 materials can be found on Cisco's website.

That's all for this edition of Certification Watch. Please keep your certification news and tips coming to news@gocertify.com.
