Microsoft Exam Prices to Increase July 1
As of July 1, 2011, (August 1 in India) Microsoft will raise the cost of many of its certification exams from the current $125 to $150. The prices will go up on Microsoft's exams for MCTS, MCITP, MCPD, MCDST, MCSA, MCSE, and MCDBA. Individuals eligible for discounted MTA), Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS), Microsoft Certified Master (MCM), and Microsoft Certified Architect (MCA), will not be affected. As Microsoft points out, this is their first exam price increase in 9 years. For pricing specific to your country, use Microsoft's exam pricing tool.
CompTIA Leaps to Advanced Certifications, Starting with Security
In a major departure from its specialization in entry-level IT certifications, CompTIA recently announced plans to launch the CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP) certification in fall 2011. The new credential, which has no formal prerequisites, is recommended for individuals who have at least 10 years of experience in IT administration, including at least 5 years in hands-on technical security. To earn CASP certification, candidates must pass a single exam covering knowledge and skills required to conceptualize, design, and engineer secure solutions across complex enterprise environments.
The exam is still under development, and CompTIA is looking for subject matter experts (SMEs), who will be paid a $300/day stipend to participate in a 5-day exam development workshop in June at CompTIA headquarters in Illinois. Only working IT security professionals will be considered.
New from BICSI: Registered Telecommunications Project Manager (RTPM)
Project management certifications are of great interest these days, and the Building Industry Consulting Service International, Inc. (BICSI) is rolling out a new designation specifically for managers of telecommunications projects. The RTPM program will not officially launch until late 2011, but in the meantime an interim version of the credential is available (RTPM(i)). Candidates must meet experience, reference, and exam requirements see the BICSI site (pdf) for extended details.
