A Letter to (ISC)² Members

Dear (ISC)² Member,

Looking back on my first year as (ISC)² CEO brings to mind what we’ve accomplished and what we need to work on.  In my communication to members back in January, I talked about my goals for (ISC)².  Here’s a brief summary of a few of our accomplishments:

(ISC)² Annual Report included audited financials – One of my goals was to bring more transparency to what we do as an organization.

CISSP® and the SSCP® – As a result of the rigorous, methodical process that (ISC)² follows to routinely update its credential exams, we announced enhancements to both credentials.

Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSPSM) – In response to a growing industry need, (ISC)² and the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) converged their expertise to offer a vendor-neutral, advanced cloud security professional certification.

2015 (ISC)² Global Information Security Workforce Study – A study of nearly 14,000 information security professionals worldwide offers a snapshot of development in information and cybersecurity as well as how the professional community is defending businesses and economies on the front lines.

Member Benefit Focus – We’ve made ongoing enhancements dedicated to providing tools and services for our members, including a vulnerability, news and threat report aggregation website (Vulnerability Central).  We’ve also added a Common Controls Hub, a collection of around 80,000 controls from more than 900 laws and regulations.

Education Opportunities – (ISC)² Foundation provided nearly $200,000 in scholarships this year to support students and their educational goals.  In addition, the American Council on Education’s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT®) evaluated and recommended college credit for the Official (ISC)² CBK® Training Seminars for the CISSP and the SSCP.

Best Professional Certification Program – (ISC)² was named the winner of the SC Magazine Awards for the CISSP in the U.S. (second year in a row) and Europe.  The SC Magazine Awards honor the achievements of companies and information security professionals striving to safeguard businesses, their customers and critical data.

As you can see, there’s a lot going on at (ISC)², and we’ll have some additional announcements in early 2016.  While it’s been an exciting first year as CEO, there’s so much more work that we still need to do.  According to Burning Glass, a job market analytics company, nearly 50,000 job postings require that applicants hold a CISSP, and that is only in the U.S!  We’ve estimated that there will be a workforce skills gap of 1.5 million information security professionals in five years due to an insufficient pool of qualified candidates. The skills gap is something that we will continue to confront on every level at (ISC)².  Toward that end, I look forward to working with the 2016 Board of Directors as we continue striving to fulfill our vision and mission.

As this year comes to an end, and looking forward to the year ahead, I want to thank you for your support. The commitment to our members and to inspiring a safe and secure cyber world is intrinsic to what we do every day at (ISC)².  I’m confident that with your help, we will continue to work hard and strive for excellence.  Thank you for being an (ISC)² member.

Best wishes to you and those close to you for a safe and happy holiday season!
