CompTIA Applauds U.S.- E.U. Data Protection Deal and Encourages Passage of the Judicial Redress Act


Sep 09, 2015 - Washington, DC, – CompTIA, the Computing Technology Industry Association, today issued the following statement regarding yesterday’s data protection agreement between the United States and Europe. Before the agreement can go into effect, Congress must first pass the Judicial Redress Act, which would allow foreign citizens to bring civil actions against U.S. government agencies for unlawful disclosures of records. The following statement should be attributed to Elizabeth Hyman, Executive Vice President, Public Advocacy:


“Yesterday’s historic agreement will help both the U.S. and E.U. combat terrorism and keep their citizens safe from harm. It also signifies the United States’ efforts to enhance its relationship with the European Union, particularly on matters of trust in data security and privacy. Before this deal can be finalized, however, Congress must pass the Judicial Redress Act. This important piece of legislation will help restore public trust in both the U.S. government and U.S. technology industry, and help U.S. companies compete and win back overseas market share.”
