CompTIA Expands Engagement with Canadian IT Industry

Re-branded Canadian IT Business Community reflects industry’s growing vibrancy

Toronto, September 25, 2014 – CompTIA, the IT Industry Trade Association, said today it is expanding its engagement with manufacturers, distributors, solution providers and other organizations active in Canada’s vibrant IT industry.

The CompTIA Canadian IT Business Community launched this month with a kickoff meeting in Toronto. Some 60 business owners, executives and leaders from Canada’s IT industry were in attendance for the launch of the re-branded community, which will build on the achievements of its predecessor, the IT Services and Support Community (Canada).

“This is a very exciting time to be actively involved with CompTIA,” said Kevin Hiebert, consultant with The Print Package and chair of the CompTIA Canadian IT Business Community. “With our new name and our current initiatives, we can build on the existing success of the community, while reaching more key individuals and companies in the Canadian IT industry.”

The community’s new name better reflects the broader make-up of community participants. Members include IT resellers, solution providers, distributors, vendors and channel associates serving the IT SMB channel and the IT services and support industry in Canada.

“As the industry continues to evolve and grow, we’re seeking to be more inclusive and more active in more facets of the Canadian IT channel,” said Jim Hamilton, vice president, member communities, CompTIA. “We’re offering companies in Canada’s IT sector a forum for networking; a place to learn and share industry best practices; and a think tank to collectively discuss and address industry issues. The community also serves as a sounding board for CompTIA, helping us to understand how we can best serve the Canadian IT industry.”

Current Initiatives

The community’s current focus is on the development of a trustmark, or business-level credential, tailored to the specific market needs of Canadian IT solution providers and the customers they serve. Companies will earn the trustmark by demonstrating an ongoing commitment to delivering quality service to customer and engaging in sound business practices.

Also planned is a series of educational content and programming on the latest industry trends and technology innovations, such as big data, cloud computing and mobility. The intent is to provide companies with actionable steps they can take to deliver solutions in these areas, creating new sources of revenue and opportunities to grow their business.
