Digital Forensics Leader AccessData Cites Industry Report Underscoring Dramatic Rise in Forensics Service Demand

Exponential Increase in Amount of Electronically Stored Information (ESI) Is Driving Global Need; Forensics Becoming an Integral Part of Enterprise Security, Says AccessData

LINDON, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On the heels of an industry report detailing a nearly 14% annualized increase in demand for digital forensics services over the past five years, AccessData Group, one of the largest computer forensic technology companies in the U.S., today affirmed the unprecedented growth in digital forensics as a key component of enterprise security. Digital forensics, the company states, must play a critical role as part of an organization’s overall security plan.

Last week IBISWorld issued its 2012 “Digital Forensics Services in the US: Market Research Report.” The study estimates that from 2007 through 2012, revenue for the digital forensics industry grew at an annualized rate of 13.7% to $878.0 million. “An increasing amount of ESI [electronically stored information] is expected to contribute to [industry] revenue growth of 9.2% in 2012,” according to materials accompanying the report.

IBISWorld also projects that Digital Forensics Services industry revenues will continue to increase over the next five years. The report states that growth will be fueled by the huge increase in households with at least one computer, as well as the number of mobile Internet connections in the US—a number that will increase 28.8% to 155.6 million in 2012.

“The advent of cloud computing and a wider array of smart mobile devices, combined with the huge upswing in social media, has made digital forensics indispensable not only for those in the legal field, but also for employers concerned about vulnerabilities both inside and outside their walls,” said Brian Karney, president and COO of AccessData. “At AccessData we’ve concentrated our efforts on helping our customers quickly and accurately investigate matters involving digital data of any kind.”

To give forensics examiners access to more advanced incident response and remote investigative capabilities, AccessData recently unveiled its Mobile Phone Examiner Plus (MPE+) v4.6, the latest version of its industry-leading mobile forensics application. MPE+ is now offered on a preconfigured 10.1″ touch tablet for instant onsite triage of mobile devices. MPE+ v4.6 provides unprecedented support for iOS products as well as more than 3,500+ other mobile devices. These capabilities let examiners investigate a handheld device on scene, thereby reducing the typical investigation sequence and drastically increasing response times.

According to IBISWorld’s report, AccessData is a “significant player” within the Digital Forensics Services industry. “Over the next five years, market share concentration is anticipated to increase (at the top end of the market) as digital forensic services firms grow,” IBISWorld states.
