North Carolina Technology Educator Named North America Teacher of the Year

Jennifer Tyndall of Spring Creek High School Honored by Certiport for Advancing Technology Certification

Certiport Chairman Bruce Hernandez and Certiport CEO Ray Kelly present Jennifer Tyndall with the Teacher of the Year Award for North America

San Diego, CA - Certiport (http://www.certiport.com), the official test delivery solution provider for the global workforce and academic markets, today presented the Teacher of the Year award to Jennifer Tyndall, business teacher at Spring Creek High School. Tyndall was honored for her work in furthering certification in North Carolina by spearheading the school’s Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification efforts at Spring Creek and helping more than 120 students earn certification during the 2010-2011 school year.

“Jennifer Tyndall is going the extra mile to help her students earn industry-recognized certification, which will prepare them for college and the workforce by adding a solid credential to their resume,” said Ray Kelly, CEO, Certiport. “The public education system in North Carolina has made certification a priority, with more than 150 high schools offering MOS certification. Spring Creek High School has led the charge and Jennifer Tyndall is doing an excellent job of motivating and helping her students master the Microsoft Office suite.”

Since Tyndall helped to implement the Microsoft IT Academy at Spring Creek High School, she has helped several other schools in Wayne County and neighboring counties implement MOS certification. One of Tyndall’s students, Miranda Hill, recently competed at the 2011 Worldwide Competition on Microsoft Office as the United States finalist for Microsoft Word 2010.

“Although business isn’t always the career interest of my students, earning industry-recognized certifications through the Microsoft IT Academy is something that has peaked interest in the student population at Spring Creek,” said Jennifer Tyndall, business teacher at Spring Creek High School. “I try to gear my teaching towards students’ individual needs and mold them into the human beings they are set out to be. This year, many of my students discovered a passion for business and got very excited about earning Microsoft certification.”

Certiport’s MOS certification program promotes success in the classroom for students and instructors, and prepares students for an increasingly competitive workforce. The MOS credential validates skills in the Microsoft Office system, covering Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and SharePoint.

“Jennifer Tyndall has been instrumental in helping us launch the Microsoft IT Academy, and she certainly deserves the Teacher of the Year honor from Certiport,” said Carol Short, Certification and Credentialing Consultant at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. “North Carolina has a statewide initiative to promote career and technical education, and teachers like Jennifer are helping students obtain the hands-on skills and practice they need to succeed in business and technology careers.”
