Intrepidus Group Partners with SANS to Deliver iOS Application Security Courses

Leading Information Security Consultancy to Provide Courses on Secure Mobile Application Development

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Intrepidus Group, a leading provider of information security consulting services, today announced it has partnered with the SANS Institute, the most trusted source for computer security training, certification and research to deliver courses on secure mobile applications development. The courses, which will be available starting December 15, 2011, will educate developers, managers and testers on the security threats and mitigations unique to iOS mobile applications.

Apple’s iOS App Store is currently the biggest mobile application store, with over 500,000 apps and 15 billion downloads. The iPhone and iPad have become household names, and companies are being founded solely around iOS apps. This course is designed to educate developers on secure programming guidelines and tips for the iOS platform. Developers will learn how to leverage data protection APIs provided by the iOS platform to protect sensitive data, and transfer it securely over wireless channels. The course covers techniques to prevent information leakage, protect against unsafe serialization formats and custom URL implementations, and user impersonation vulnerabilities. In addition, attendees will address the impact of "jailbreaking" on applications and how apps may best react to it.

“The iOS platform has been widely adopted as the medium to easily and conveniently provide services to users in this mobile age,” said Jeremy Allen, Chief Technology Officer of Intrepidus Group. “We have been involved in the testing of mobile applications across a variety of mobile operating systems for the past 5 years. Through our testing experience, hands on examples and cooperation with SANS, course attendees will learn how to develop their own secure applications, and understand the unique security properties of the iOS platform.”

This course is also designed to assist managers in identifying and understanding the security risks iOS applications pose for their users and for their company – where the risks lie, what threats to test for and how to verify security properties. Armed with the intelligence of how the security model and properties of the iOS system work, managers will be able to make informed decisions while managing risk within their enterprise.

“As the iOS platform matures and boasts an ever increasing feature set, applications will continue to consume greater amounts of personal and confidential data,” said Frank Kim, Curriculum Lead for application security at the SANS Institute. “We are proud to partner with Intrepidus Group to ensure developers have a means to educate themselves on the potential risks of these platforms and how to take suitable measures to protect not only their data, but their user’s data as well.”
