CompTIA Linux+ Powered by LPI Certification Exam Now Available

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill.--CompTIA, the leading provider of vendor neutral skills certifications for the world’s information technology (IT) workforce, today announced the availability of the new CompTIA Linux+ Powered by LPI certification.

The new certification is the result of a partnership between CompTIA and the Linux Professional Institute (LPI), the world's leading Linux certification organization. Earlier this month the two organizations announced they would standardize their entry-level Linux certification programs on LPI's Level One certification exams (LPIC-1).

Under this innovative program, candidates who pass the exams will earn both the new CompTIA Linux+ Powered by LPI certification and the existing LPIC-1 certification.

“We’re confident our collaboration with LPI will provide new opportunities for both organizations and go a long way toward building a global workforce of skilled IT professionals knowledgeable about all facets of Linux,” said Terry Erdle, senior vice president, skills certification, CompTIA.

Research from CompTIA and other industry sources indicates that many users have heightened interest in open source solutions. For example, a 2010 CompTIA survey of more than 400 small and medium-sized businesses in the United States found that nearly 20 percent plan to begin using open source software in the next 12 months.

The new CompTIA Linux+ Powered by LPI certification is not available in Japan. The current CompTIA Linux+ exam will retire in Japan on April 30, 2010.
