New Security Courses from ISACA Focus on Security Assessment and NIST’s Cybersecurity Framework Implementation

Rolling Meadows, Illinois, USA (29 October 2014)—Global IT association ISACA has partnered with accreditation institute APMG International to offer two new training courses focused on security. The courses on implementing the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and assessing for security equip individuals with key cybersecurity guidance and the knowledge needed to pass related exams and earn recognition that demonstrates capabilities in these areas of security.

These courses are the latest resources from ISACA’s Cybersecurity Nexus (CSX). Through CSX, ISACA offers cybersecurity resources for professionals at every level of their careers.

“Today’s global cybersecurity skills shortage is impacting all areas of the business as enterprises are challenged to stay ahead of cyberthreats,” said Robert E Stroud, CGEIT, CRISC, international president of ISACA and vice president of strategy and innovation at CA Technologies. “These courses offer important training in applying COBIT 5 to contribute to the overall strength, security and resilience of an enterprise.”

Implementing NIST Cybersecurity Framework Using COBIT 5 is a two-day course focused on the Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), its goals, implementation steps, profiles, self-assessment and the ability to apply this information to help manage cyberrisk and align with an organization's broader enterprise risk management program. The course and exam are for individuals who have a basic understanding of security concepts and are involved in improving the cybersecurity program for their enterprises. The US Cybersecurity Framework, developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), includes COBIT 5 as an informative reference. Basic COBIT 5 knowledge is a prerequisite for this course. Information can be found at www.isaca.org/NISTCSF.

COBIT 5 Assessor for Security is a three-day course to provide training in performing enterprisewide IT process assessments. It is similar in structure to the existing COBIT 5 Assessor course but is security specific. Individuals can apply to become a COBIT Certified Assessor after taking this course and successfully passing the exam. COBIT 5 Certified Assessors have demonstrated experience in planning, building, running and/or monitoring IT processes. They are able to provide reliable, consistent and repeatable assessments of IT process capabilities—which helps IT leaders gain C-level and board member buy-in for change and improvement initiatives. Individuals must pass the COBIT 5 Foundation exam before taking this course. Information can be found atwww.isaca.org/COBIT5SecurityAssessor.

““We are pleased to be working with ISACA to fill a global need with these new courses,” said Richard Pharro, CEO of APMG International. “They will help organizations understand and implement the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, helping ensure that organizations can anticipate and mitigate cyberattacks.”
