Prometric Technology Division Achieves CMMI Designation for Software Engineering

Benchmark Paves Way for Long-Term, Continuous Best Practices Strategy
for Test Development and Delivery Services Engineered by Prometric Technology Innovations

Baltimore, MD – Prometric has further positioned itself as the trusted provider of market-leading test development and delivery solutions by achieving Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 2 designation, the globally recognized standard for software development practices sponsored by Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute (SEI). The appraisal was performed by Integrated System Diagnostics, Inc., an independent SEI partner company.

"Achieving the CMMI Level 2 designation took considerable effort by a dedicated team and the buy-in of our executive leadership team," said Paul Forrester, Prometric's Chief Technology Officer. "We're proud of the Level 2 assessment and the planning and teamwork required to institutionalize the process improvements. We're now focused on expanding our process improvement efforts in pursuit of the Level 3 designation. It adds more than 200 additional practices to the assessment process and represents another great opportunity for us to continue to advance our software development capability."

CMMI is a process improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes that ultimately improve their performance. Prometric implemented the CMMI process improvement approach to formally establish a framework for identifying its strengths and weaknesses in software engineering and continually pursuing greater performance measures in project management, quality assurance and risk management. CMMI designations are hallmarked by continuous assessment, honest self-scrutiny, charting a strategic path to excellence and adhering to it.

"Prometric's commitment to CMMI compliant process development and deployment is in line with its role as industry standard bearer for delivering client solutions that rely heavily on software," said Joseph Morin, President and CEO of Integrated System Diagnostics, Inc. Morin was the independent SEI Certified Lead Appraiser assessing Prometric through its progression to Level 2.

Prometric delivers 10 million tests per year across a network of 8,000 test centers in more than 160 countries, most in the industry. Appraisals rated at Maturity Level 2 indicate Prometric's software projects have processes that are planned and executed in accordance with policy; the projects employ skilled people who have adequate resources to produce controlled outputs; involve relevant stakeholders; are monitored, controlled and reviewed; and are evaluated for adherence to their process descriptions.

"Reaching the Level 2 benchmark is another way that Prometric is saying to its clients that we are putting the very best technology solutions forward on your behalf," said Forrester.

Prometric completed process changes required for a successful Level 2 appraisal over the past year. The methodology establishes and evaluates benchmark quality ratings for internal and external software development and implementation capabilities.
