Tony Vargas Named a 2014 (ISC)²® President’s Award Recipient

(ISC)² Application Security Advisory Council Chair and Sacramento Chapter President, Co-Founder, and Chairman Recognized for Volunteer Commitment to the Organization 


    Clearwater, Fla., October 9, 2014 — (ISC)²® (“ISC-squared”), the largest not-for-profit membership body of certified information and software security professionals with over 100,000 members worldwide, today announced its Executive Director has selected Tony Vargas, CISSP-ISSAP, CSSLP, a recipient of the 2014 (ISC)² President’s Award. 


The (ISC)² President’s Award recognizes volunteers who have made a significant impact on/and or contribution to (ISC)² and the security industry through their dedicated volunteer efforts throughout the past year. Multiple recipients are chosen annually or bi-annually at the sole discretion of (ISC)²’s Executive Director. 


With over 20 years of experience in cybersecurity, Tony Vargas is an internationally recognized security expert. At Cisco, he was a Cisco Product Security Champion in 2012, and in 2013. he won the inaugural Cisco Product Security Champion of the Year Award. Tony is co-founder, chairman, and president of the (ISC)² Sacramento Chapter. The chapter spreads security awareness throughout its local community in Northern California and beyond by providing the (ISC)² Foundation’s Safe and Secure Online presentation to children, parents, and teachers. Over the past year, the (ISC)² Sacramento Chapter has presented Safe and Secure Online to over 1,600 individuals. Tony is also a lead volunteer for the  (ISC)² Foundation’s Safe and Secure Online program and chair of the (ISC)² Application Security Advisory Council


“Tony is an outstanding volunteer and truly exemplifies the vision of (ISC)² to inspire a safe and secure cyber world,” said W. Hord Tipton, CISSP, executive director, (ISC)². “The building blocks of this organization were built upon the commitment of passionate, dedicated volunteers like Tony. Honoring him with this award was the least we could do to show our appreciation for his tireless efforts.” 


“The (ISC)² Sacramento Chapter is strong and successful due to Tony’s leadership skills and passion to make our world more safe and secure,” said Jayda Shriver, manager, Chapter Program, (ISC)². “He is very passionate about security and concerned for those who are potentially vulnerable to it, such as children and seniors. This is a huge driving factor for the Sacramento Chapter, whose members have reached thousands of individuals, including children, parents, and teachers throughout the local community with the Safe and Secure Online program.”
