Certiport Launches Global Standard Six for IC3 Digital Literacy Certification Program

Salt Lake City, Utah (June 16, 2020) — Certiport, a Pearson VUE business and the leading provider of performance-based IT certification exams that accelerate academic and career opportunities for learners, formally announced the launch of the latest version of its IC3 Digital Literacy Certification, Global Standard Six (GS6) at CERTIFIED, Certiport's annual educator conference, on June 16.

The new version of IC3 Digital Literacy has been completely restructured to address current computing concepts and align with educational requirements to ensure learners can validate their understanding of Digital Literacy. The changes were developed to promote the importance of digital literacy and create an easy-to-use program that could be implemented on an institutional level, regardless of sector.

The new version of the IC3 Digital Literacy program is separated into three competency levels: Level 1-Foundations, Level 2-Intermediate, and Level 3-Advanced. Learners can start on any level based on their existing knowledge and skills, encouraging them to begin where applicable and finish with a mastery of the objective domains.

Each level focuses on seven essential domains within Digital Literacy: Technology Basics, Digital Citizenship, Information Management, Content Creation, Communication, Collaboration, and Safety and Security. The domains were determined through an analysis of employability demands and educational requirements, incorporating international standards setting bodies such as DigComp and ISTE, to ensure IC3 Digital Literacy is relevant.

"A 'digital native,' meaning a young person who grows up with technology, is just someone who has learned on their own to be a consumer of technology," says Nich Haber, Director of STEM & CTE, at Certiport. "We need to empower young people to be digital citizens, be digitally ready for school and digitally prepared for work. IC3 Digital Literacy gives them a solid foundation to be a part of the digital economy."

The IC3 Digital Literacy certification can be bundled with curriculum-based learning materials and practice tests within the program. These complementary products are designed to be easy to use for quick implementation into lesson plans and institutions of learning. This follows a "Learn, Practice, Certify" model that is used throughout all Certiport's certification programs. The courseware and practice tests will be available in July shortly after the launch of the certification exams.

Learners who complete all three levels of the program will also receive a master certification, indicating they have mastered each tier of difficulty. Those that earn the master certificate can relay that they know the concepts, can act on the knowledge, and can help others with these topics.

IC3 Digital Literacy certification, since 2003, has been dedicated to ensuring learners of all ages can not only navigate our digital world but thrive in it. IC3 Digital Literacy works closely with the Global Digital Literacy Council, an advisory body of industry executives, technology educators, and assessment professionals, to collect data from job markets, educational ministries, governmental agencies, and international standard setting bodies, to ensure IC3 Digital Literacy is always on the forefront of what it means to be digitally literate.
