IT Early Career professionals to get more support from BCS

LONDON (24 August 2020) — A new initiative to support people in the early stages of their working lives within the digital industries has been launched by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.

The chair of the newly formed BCS Early Career Executive is John Dyer and he said: "As new technologies come in year-on-year, so do new IT professionals join into the workforce. I want to build an Early Career Executive that brings together the fine work of BCS to support and develop our latest colleagues into professional members." John works as a Lead Machine Learning and Data Engineer at Moneyhub Enterprise.

The focus of the Early Career Executive will include people changing careers, graduates, and apprentices. The Executive's Vice-Chair is Eleanor Mosely, who works as a Transformation Lead at Atos. She said: "IT is shaping so much of the world around us and I think it's really important that the industry attracts, supports and ultimately retains the best talent. I'm really excited to help build a group that supports all of those people joining the IT profession."

John and Eleanor will be working with staff across BCS to strengthen the early careers community, plus the Executive will be closely linked with the BCS Community, steering external activity within BCS member groups to make sure the needs of people early in their careers are being met at a local level and within their chosen specialisms.

BCS recognises that growing the future generation of IT professionals is crucial and must be considered across all of BCS. Providing opportunities for learning, development and networking is essential during the early careers stage.

Alastair Revell, Vice-President of BCS Community added: "The Early Career Executive will bring a strategic focus to how BCS engages with people establishing themselves in our field. We need to gain a reputation for supporting and nurturing entrants into the profession to ensure society can rely on the ethical and professional standards of the next generation of IT professionals.

"I am confident that John Dyer and Eleanor Mosley will build an exciting and dynamic team that will help shape our future relationship with the generation that will take professionalism to the next level."

John and Eleanor are presently recruiting other members of the Executive team. If you are interested in getting involved or finding out more, please contact earlycareers@bcs.org.
