The Linux Foundation Launches Open Source Software Development Certificate

‍

The Linux Foundation is offering a new open source software development program.

If you've been waiting to start learning about open source software development until someone makes you an offer you can't refuse, then it may be time to finally get started. This week The Linux Foundation announces the launch of its new Professional Certificate in Open Source Software Development, Linux, and Git. The new certificate, offered in collaboration with edX, requires completion of three separate courses over an 11-month period. The program is self-paced, to allow each individual learner to work at his/her/their own speed. Among the more specific skills listed, the course designers promise to provide students with "a strong foundation for working comfortably and productively in open source development communities." The full program has a price tag just north of $400, but each of the three courses included can be taken free of charge for those not interested in a certificate.

New VIPs Added to Cisco Learning Network Community

‍

Last week in this space we discussed how the formerly robust Cisco Learning Network family of certification and learning blogs had kind of withered on the vine in 2021. This week, a bit of dust has been blown off the content machine with the first official post of 2022. The post announces the addition of three "VIP"-level contributors to the Cisco Learning Network blog squad. The new contributors are Brian Schoonover, Daniel Kuhl, and Deepak Kumar. As noted in the announcement welcoming the newcomers, "Each member of the VIP program has been instrumental in strengthening our efforts to foster a welcoming, fun, and educational online platform for all life-long learners." Does this mean the flow of content to the CLN family of blogs will begin to recover its former robustness? Time will tell.

AWS Touts Certification and Training Programs to 'Future-Proof' Organizations

‍

Almost all industry observers agree that cloud computing will undergird both the short-term and long-term future of the information technology (IT) industry. That means that most businesses, nonprofits, associations, and other groups are getting more and more deeply immersed in cloud computing technology. And that means that almost everyone is hoping to hire IT professionals with cloud computing knowledge and skills. That explains why leading cloud services provider Amazon Web Services (AWS) is touting its training and certification program as a means for businesses and other organizations to "future-proof" their workforces. AWS's cloud computing certifications are consistently rated as being among the best in the industry, and are frequently associated with top-dollar salaries.

(ISC)2 Wants YOU to Get Certified in Cybersecurity

‍

(ISC)2 wants you to get certified. Now!

Cybersecurity continues to be one of the most difficult challenges facing the entire IT industry. In part, that's because hackers continue to develop new methods of attack and create new ways to get around the myriad defenses deployed against them. In part, it's because there aren't nearly as many skills cybersecurity professionals available as businesses and organizations would like to employ. A new post to the official (ISC)2 blog reports that researchers predict that the current cybersecurity workforce needs to expand by 65 percent to meet demand. As (ISC)2 sees it, that's a call to action for anyone considering bolstering their cybersecurity skills with a certification. You may some ready excuses for why you've been waiting to get started, but (ISC)2 doesn't want to hear them. If "get a cybersecurity certification" is on your 2022 to-do list but your motivation is lacking, then check into this blog post for a pep talk.
