The CertMag Salary Survey Wants YOU
Each year just as we're all settling into autumn, the survey team at Certification Magazine springs out of the color-shifting foliage like a hungry mountain lion and, well, politely asks whether you, a certified IT professional, would like to share some information about your career progression and compensation. It's like you're just out for a stroll, listening to the wind rustle in the trees, and then — BLAM — tell us how much money you make! The 2024 Salary Survey comes the usual array of carrots: Everyone who takes and completes the survey can have a free one-year subscription to the digital edition of Certification Magazine. And there are 15 $50 Amazon gift cards in play. (Do you feel lucky?) Bear in mind that not just anyone in IT can take the survey. Participation is limited to individuals who hold at least one current IT certification.
Cisco Celebrates Cybersecurity Awareness Month with Free Tutorials
In the spirt of the season, some people are festooning the premises of their homes with giant plastic yard skeletons. Also in the spirit of the season, Cisco U., has some treats for those who specialize (or want to specialize) in cybersecurity. These two things are not in the spirit of the same season, of course. October means Halloween to many, and if you have a 15-foot yard skeleton taking up space in the basement, well, you almost have to get it out there. October is also National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM). For the Cisco U. team, that provides an excellent opportunity to offer free security tutorials, as detailed in a new post to the Cisco Learning Blog. How many free tutorials? Well, the post throws around the word "smorgasbord," so there are probably enough of them to keep you busy for a while. Trick or treat!
CompTIA Prepares for New Security+ Release
It's been three years since the last time there was a new exam for Security+, the widely respected information security credential offered by tech industry association and leading global IT certification provider CompTIA. That's means it's time for the next iteration of Security+ to rear its head and, hey presto, right on schedule a post to the official CompTIA blog lays out the particulars of what to expect from the new exam, which will be released next month. One thing that tends to change at least a little bit from one exam to the next is the exam weighting of the five domains, or subject areas. The domain weights for the new exam, SY0-701 are as follows: General Security Concepts — 12 percent; Threats, Vulnerabilities, and Mitigations — 22 percent; Security Architecture — 18 percent; Security Operations — 28 percent; Security Program Management and Oversight — 20 percent.
'Tell Me About Yourself' and Other Things Interviewers Ask
Almost everyone who enters the workforce will have one or more job interviews in their life, and there's probably no way to be entirely prepared. (Or is there?) It never hurts to see what the latest advice about how to get hired is, however, and there are a lot of different places to look for such advice. Online IT employment facilitator Dice perhaps has an advantage over other sources of information, given that the site itself is all about helping IT workers get hired. So it's probably worth your while to click over and have a look at anything Dice has to say about interview questions, like this week's new post that ran under the headline "How to Optimize Your Answers to Tech Job Interview Questions." Don't go into your next job interview underprepared! (Or do go. You never know what will happen until you're in the room.)
ISC2 Has Exam Tips (and Tricks) 'That Actually Work'
You have to respect a good blog post that doesn't even get down to business before throwing shade at all of the other blog posts out there. A new post to the official blog of cybersecurity professional association ISC2 heaps the side-eye on other cybersecurity bloggers by promising in its headline to bestow some exam-taking "tips and tricks" that are, you know, actually worth a darn. The unsigned blog doesn't limit itself to just helping you take down your next IT certification exam, however, there are tips about the entire certification process, including study, training, and review "hacks."
That's all for this edition of Certification Watch. Please keep your certification news and tips coming to the GoCertify News Editor.
