AWP Closed, Jupiter Systems and SIP to Continue Certification Program

The Association of Web Professionals (AWP), which offered three Web-related certifications, has closed its doors and ceased operations. The good news is that the certification program will continue through a partnership of Jupiter Systems Inc. and the Society of Internet Professionals (SIP). Jupiter Systems will administer the exams online, while SIP will manage the program. Individuals currently certified under the AWP program as Certified Web Technician (CWT), Certified Web Manager (CWM), or Certified Web Designer (CWD), should contact SIP to have their title registered with SIP. This will require joining SIP, which costs $150 Canadian.

Cisco CSIDS Exam in Beta

A beta version of the Cisco Security Intrusion Detection Systems Beta Exam (CSIDS 643-531) is available for $50 through August 22, 2003, through Prometric and Pearson VUE testing networks. The CSIDS exam tests the knowledge and skills needed to design, install, and configure a Cisco Intrusion Protection solution for small, medium, and enterprise networks. Passing this exam counts toward requirements for the Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP) career certification and the Cisco Intrusion Detection System Specialist certification. The live version of this exam is slated for an October 2003 release.

New Certification Program for High Tech Product Managers

If you're looking for something a bit different, instead of certifying only technical abilities consider going after credentials that support those all important soft skills. A new certification program from Pragmatic Marketing, Pragmatic Marketing Certified Practitioner in Practical Product Management (PMCP in PPM), certifies expertise in high tech product management and marketing. IBM Launches Replacements for Tivoli Certified Enterprise Consultant Title

IBM Tivoli Software has announced the launch of three new certifications at the Advanced Deployment Professional level. These titles are intended to replace the Tivoli Certified Enterprise Consultant role. They are: IBM Certified Advanced Deployment Professional - Tivoli Enterprise Management Solutions 2003 ; IBM Certified Advanced Deployment Professional - Tivoli Security Management Solutions 2003 ; and IBM Certified Advanced Deployment Professional - Tivoli Storage Management Solutions 2003. These credentials are the highest level of Tivoli certification available. Candidates must first hold the Advanced Deployment Professional title on the track they wish to pursue.

Apple Computer Launches End User Certification Program

Apple computer recently announced an end user certification program intended for users of its digital media products. Certification exams are through Apple Authorized Training Centers and are available (or will be soon) for Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Shake and Logic. Associated classroom and self-study training is available. Exams cost $150.

New Alteon Security Design Expert certification from Nortel Networks

On July 24th Nortel released the new Alteon Security Design Expert certification. This new designation is for individuals who are responsible for designing secure networks using Alteon products. As a prerequisite, candidates must first earn Nortel Networks Certified Design Specialist (NNCDS) certification in Alteon. Passing the Alteon Security exam will elevate you to the Alteon Security Design Expert title.

Free Linux Certification Testing at Linuxworld

LPI certification testing will be available at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo, August 5-8, Moscone Conference Center, San Francisco. Candidates must pre-register at www.lpi.org/en/register.html to receive a LPI registration ID number before testing on-site. An administration fee of $20 per exam will be charged to non-conference attendees who wish to test.
